San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy asked the team $65 million a year in his new deal before agreeing to a small amount.
This reports Purdy wants to be the highest-paid player in league history, according to ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter.
Currently, Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert makes the most money each year with $60 million in the NFL, with Purdy’s team initially demanding $5 million, surpassing that mark.
In the end, the parties settled on a five-year, $265 million contract, becoming the highest-paid player in franchise history, earning $53 million per season.
Since taking over as the team’s starter in Week 13 of 2022, Purdy has ranked fourth in the NFL in QBR, third in total passing yards, one yard per attempt and seventh in touchdown passes.
The 25-year-old figure was hit hard in 2024 as the 49ers finished with a 6-11 record with injuries to Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Eiyuk and Trent Williams.
Purdy’s teammate Fred Warner’s $63 million extension with San Francisco made him the league’s highest-paid linebacker.
