On June 27, the Supreme Court issued a groundbreaking opinion that effectively binding judges’ ability to issue large orders that obstruct the president’s policies. As it is known as a national injunction, orders have exploded with frequency due to certain spikes under President Donald Trump.
In its 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court said that Congress did not grant judges the authority to issue widespread relief to individuals not before the court. Some of the details still need to be resolved, and the ultimate fate of Trump’s policy has yet to be determined. However, the court’s orders gave administration leverage when fighting federal judges about how much it could limit the president’s policies.
