I was waiting enthusiastically Split Gate 2 Open the beta for a while. They plan to keep the show until it’s fully released in the summer. This is an endless opportunity to play my most anticipated new FPS game. Then imagine my disappointment. Imagine then I wake up this morning and find the server offline. And they stayed the same all day. Some players have had a rather smooth experience, but there have been some extensive issues with cosmetics that are not visible and server instability in general. After a few hours of downtime, the 1047 Games CEO apologised for the bumpy start to the open beta, promising that the studio “works around the clock” to get it up and running again.
If you’re a regular reader, you’ve probably already seen my misty ramblings on Splitgate 2. I adored the feel and concept of the first game. And now, the sequel rethinks the unique combination of Hello-style gunplay and portal-style ERM, Unreal Engine 5 portals. Yesterday’s open beta launch of FPS games was intended to add some new maps and modes and introduce a wealth of custom map editors. However, it is hampered by technical issues.
Just hours after the beta was released, there were reports of cosmetics (both unlockable and available for purchase) that weren’t shown in player inventory. Twitch drop items were also not available. Furthermore, there was a general server wobble across the board. This is a very surprising given how the previous beta was so smooth and solid.
At the time of writing, the Splitgate 2 server was offline for about 14 hours and there was no time slot to get it back up. 1047 says this allows you to make all the proper bug fixes and server improvements that you need. “Everyone should be able to experience Splitgate 2 as intended. You won’t be quitting until you do,” reads X-post on the game’s official account.
Given the length of downtime, 1047 CEO Ian Proulx has released a video statement apologizing for the confusion.
“This isn’t where we thought we were 24 hours after the beta was released,” says Proulx. “We thought we were in great condition by now, but obviously it’s not. I’m really sorry. This is something we’ve been working on for years. I’ve been working on university ten years ago. I don’t know what to say.
He says the developers are “smashing” all night and are still “working 24 hours a day” to fix server issues. Proulx also ensures that once the problem is resolved, all cosmetics you acquire or purchase will be available.

– Split Gate 2: Open the beta version immediately! (@splitgate) May 23, 2025
“The skin you bought or earned, it’s all there and it’s all in our system. You haven’t lost it, you have my words. It’s there, don’t worry.”
A “more specific” update on server status, and, hopefully, a rough timeline on when players can return, will arrive late May 23rd.
This is a truly disappointing start to the biggest moments of Splitgate 2’s life so far. The technical issues certainly make some players feel uneasy, but the big loss is that after the hype, you may not be able to play in some or all of the first weekend. The bounty of savings is that the beta doesn’t have a solid end date and ends when the full Split Gate 2 release date arrives, so 1047 redeems itself and still takes time for the player to win.
