The Facebook parent movement came after Meta launched AI technology in Europe last month. The UK news outlet added that Meta AI was launched in the US in 2023, but its deployment in Europe faced several regulatory issues due to the EU’s strict privacy and transparency rules. Meta said EU people using Facebook and Instagram will start receiving notifications explaining what data the company will use. Users are also expected to receive a link to a form that they can use their data to reject for training purposes.
Meta does not use data under the age of 18
Zuckerberg’s company said it will use data such as user queries and questions about meta AI. However, it states that private messages and public data from accounts of users under the age of 18 will not be used in training.
On May 14, Austrian advocacy group NOYB (none of your business) announced it would seek an injunction against the meta, which could lead to considerable claims if the tech giant proceeded with plans to use European personal data to train AI models.
NOYB, led by privacy activist Max Schlems, said it sent Meta a letter of suspension and abolition. This cited legitimate interest based on EU privacy regulations for using user data to train and develop generic AI models and other AI tools that can be shared with third parties.
“The European Court of Justice has already determined that Meta cannot assert “legitimate interests” in targeting users in advertising. How do you have to be “legitimate interest” to suck all the data from AI training? ” Schlem responded to Mehta’s statement.
Germany and Ireland refuse to take action against the meta
The German Data Protection Agency (DPA) initially said it was trying to stop Meta’s AI plans, but later betrayed it. Tuesday, Euractiv I’ve been confirmed The DPA has decided that the emergency process to stop Meta’s plans will not be the only EU regulator to control the tech giant. The decision from the DPA was simply to suspend training programs in Germany.
