Israel killed Hamas leader Mohamed Singhwar in Gaza, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told lawmakers that he was targeted in a recent airstrike at a strip hospital, following Israeli media reports.

One of Israel’s most wanted targets, Singwar is considered to be Hamas’ top military leader in Gaza.

He is the brother of Yahiya Singwar, the late Hamas chief, the mastermind behind the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, who was killed by the IDF last year.

Speaking to Israeli Congress on Wednesday, Netanyahu included Singar on the list of Hamas leaders killed in Israeli airstrikes.

“We have eliminated Mohammed Singhwar,” Netanyahu told the parliamentary plenary session.

Hamas has not commented publicly on the allegations.

Israeli media reported earlier this month that Singwar was the target of a strike at Khan Yunis hospital on May 13th.

The Army declined to comment at the time, saying it targeted Hamas’ “commanders and control centres,” which are said to be under European hospitals.

Netanyahu’s comments come after Gaza’s Ministry of Health said at least one Palestinian was killed and 48 were injured when gunshots were fired at crowds overranging a new aid distribution site established by the Israeli and the US Support Foundation.

Israeli forces, separately on Wednesday, said in a statement that they had hit “dozens of targets across the Gaza Strip” over the past 48 hours, including weapons storage facilities and tank missile posts.

Israel vowed to take control of Gaza and fight until Hamas was destroyed or disarmed and exiled. And until the extremist groups return the remaining 58 hostages seized in the war-caused invasion.

Hamas-led militants killed about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and sought 251 in the 2023 assault.

Subsequent Israeli attacks killed at least 54,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, according to the Gaza Health Ministry run by Hamas, which does not distinguish fighter jets and civilians.
