The Secretary of State said freedom of speech is a “born right that foreign governments do not have authority.”
Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on May 28th the restrictions on new visas for foreigners involved in censoring speeches by US citizens.
“Today, I am publishing a new visa restriction policy that applies to foreign officials and people who are conspiring to censor Americans. Free speech is essential to the American way of life.
Rubio said foreigners involved in suppressing American rights should not be allowed to visit the United States.
“The era of passive treatment for those who work to undermine American rights, whether in Latin America, Europe or elsewhere, is over,” he said.
The Epoch Times contacted the State Department for more information on Rubio’s reasons for adopting this new policy position, but the department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

White House adviser and owner of social media platform X, Elon Musk clashed with Morae over the Brazilian judge’s request to block certain accounts on the platform.
During a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing last week, Rubio told lawmakers he was considering potential sanctions against Morae.
