The 49ers traded for defensive end Bryce Huff, who won the Eagles Super Bowl, who will be moving to San Francisco in exchange for a 2026 midseason draft pick.

The Eagles trade Bryce Huff for the 49ers

The majority of teams have completed their roster and are preparing for the 2025 season, but with just under 100 days to kickoff, there’s plenty of time for big deals before the campaign progresses.

The San Francisco 49ers have been restructuring their defense since former Jets head coach Robert Saleh signed defensive coordinator at the end of last season, and Bryce Huff is the latest star to sign.

Huff joined San Francisco’s strong defense that made many moves this summer.

The Eagles were happy enough to trade Huffs from the Super Bowl-winning team in exchange for a 2026 midseason draft pick, and after almost a week of negotiations, the Niners finally got their man.

Huff only had one season in Philadelphia, but he couldn’t compete all year round. After struggling to adapt to his new defensive system, a wrist injury ruled him in the late stages of the regular season.

The defensive lineman managed to return to the postseason, but he only made a brief appearance in the championship game with the NFC Wildcard round and his injuries. Huff was a slow scratch from the Super Bowl.

Despite trouble on the field, Huff still leaves his first career Super Bowl to his name in Philadelphia.

Before Huff was signed by the Eagles in 2024, he played for Robert Sale’s New York Jets team from 2020 to 2023. His close relationship with the new defensive coordinator gave him a long way to revive Huff’s career after being injured in 2024.

In his final year with the Jets, Huff managed 10 bags and won a contract with the Eagles. If he could regain his form from 2023 under Saleh, the Niners could have had a serious pass rush in their hands.

How much will Bryce Hough earn?

The transaction is now complete, but Bryce Huff’s contract is slightly more complicated than the transaction itself for several reasons.

As part of the deal, Philadelphia was able to restructure Huff’s contract, originally a three-year deal worth $51.1 million.

The Niners will now pay around $7.95 million in Huff this season, and if he plays inadequately, the team will have the ability to release their former eagles without any additional costs or risk.

However, if Huff regains his old form, San Francisco might tend to pay Huff’s $17 million salary in 2026, keeping him on the team for another year.
