A British plastic surgeon was imprisoned for life for attempted murder of a colleague.
61-year-old Jonathan Peter Brooks broke into the Graeme Parks home in Nottinghamshire early on January 14, 2021, wearing camouflage gear and carrying clover, gas cans, matches and knife.
Brooks covered the first floor of the house with gas, but was interrupted by the 65-year-old perks, allowing him to get off. The surgeon stabbed a recently retired colleague in the abdomen, causing a life-threatening injury.
Brooks was the subject of workplace disciplinary issues, but prosecutors said he was clearly graced with perks because of his involvement in the process.
He was convicted in April of two counts of attempted murder. This is one of the arson attempts aimed at risking life and one of the possession of articles with blades. On Monday, Brooks was given a minimum term of 22 years.
“Brooks committed extreme violence in an attempt to kill a highly respected colleague,” said Samantha Elau, deputy prime minister prosecutor of the Crown Prosecutor’s Office.
“This was a planned, calculated attack, and Brooks showed that he was determined to kill his former colleague,” she said in a statement.
Brooks was sentenced via a video link from the prison. Prosecutors said his trial was “very rare” and was not represented by the legal team. Brooks’ ruling followed a four-year legal hearing, including erroneous statements and several other suspended trial dates.
“Justice has now caught up with Brooks,” added Shallow. “His victims were fortunate to escape with his life, and his whole family was at risk from Brooks’ inexplicable actions.”
In a victim’s impact statement to the court, Perks said the attack was “an unimaginable catastrophe” and “it’s ironic that burn surgeons should want to innovate our families.”
“This was a nightmare for my wife and son who must have been wondering if I would survive. This goes beyond all the struggles of our lives so far,” Perks said.
