Israel and Iran traded a barrage of airstrikes on Monday, the fourth day they fought in an escalating conflict that began after last week’s unprecedented Israeli attack on Tehran.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the air attacks targeting Iran’s nuclear, missiles and military facilities were carried out early on Friday by his forces.

According to former Israeli spokesman Eilon Levi, the current Israeli campaign could last longer than expected.

In an interview with Euronows, Levy said, “Because of the large scale nuclear program of the Iranian regime, it is likely that they are at least looking at a few weeks of Israeli military action.”

“Remember that the Iranian regime has not built one or two reactors to develop uranium for medical isotopes or private energy. It often built nuclear facilities underground.

Levy added that Iran has started a war with 360 ballistic missile launchers. Israel destroyed a third of them, he said.

“It started with 2,000 ballistic missiles. Most of them are still unharmed. So this will take time for Israel to neutralize the threats of the Iranian regime, but so far Israel has been working very quickly,” explained Levy.

As of Monday afternoon, at least 220 people had died in Iran due to the Israeli strike, but at least 24 deaths from Iran’s missile strike in Israel.

In concern about the spread of conflicts into regional war growth, Iran said it would not negotiate a ceasefire during Israeli attacks. However, Levy believes Tehran is not in any position at the moment to direct the terms of the negotiations.

“Israel has killed the head of the military, the head of the air force, and the intelligence reporting agency. It takes out a third of the ballistic missile launchers, controls Iran’s air and freely bombs Iran’s illegal nuclear weapons facilities,” he said.

“If the Iranian regime wants to peacefully dismantle the enrichment programme it has built to build nuclear weapons to destroy Israel, then it is welcome to do so. However, it cannot get an unconditional ceasefire, so it can do fake negotiations while racing towards the nuclear bomb.”

Tehran accused the United States of conspiring in Israel’s attacks on the Islamic Republic.

At an emergency meeting at the UN Security Council on Friday, the US urged Tehran to be “wise” to negotiate over a nuclear program.
