In the May enforcement action of President Donald Trump’s four members, the enforcement action attempting to “revitalize” the US nuclear industry was one of those “ordering reforms to the Nuclear Regulation Commission” appointed by the president who oversees the safety of nuclear development but appointed an independent five-seat regulatory commission.
The president took a step towards reforming the committee led by three or two Democrats on June 13, when he fired Christopher Hanson, who was appointed in 2020 and served as committee chair under President Joe Biden from 2021 to 2025.
