In the 2025 NFL Draft, only two QBs were selected in the first round. Tennessee had an overall choice for No. 1, winning Miami QB Come Ward. Returning to the first round was the New York Giants.
On the 25th overall pick, they chose Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart. To start training in the spring, Dirt was the third string behind two veteran QBs. Over the past three weeks, Dart has been working with a second team ahead of Jameis Winston. Head coach Brian Daball expressed how impressed he was that he was with the rookie early on. How early does Jaxson Dart start his first start of Big Blue?
Will Jackson surpass Russell Wilson as the Giants starter in 2025?
From insider @nflnetwork: #giants QB Jaxson Dart was impressed early, but it’s not difficult to see manager Brian Dabor as a follower. pic.twitter.com/9mqz20qgtf

Compared to the past few years, the New York giant is actually competing in the QB room. This offseason, the Giants brought in three new QBs. One or two in free agency through the draft. New York chose QB Jaxson Dart from Ole Miss for the 25th overall pick in the 2025 draft. Additionally, the Giants signed veterans Russell Wilson and Jamis Winston. The team has already come out and Wilson said he will be the starter in week one.
But that doesn’t mean Rookie Jackson Dirt won’t have the opportunity to start in 2025. When talking to the media, head coach Brian Daball had something positive about his rookie. He shared how DART has made improvements since joining the team, and how he managed to “fit properly” with the rest of the QB room. Russell Wilson is an unsuspecting week 1 starter, but Jackson Dirt makes it difficult for the giants to get him to bench.
Early on, I feel that DART has an opportunity to start at some point next season. According to Sharp Football Analysis, the Giants have the toughest strength of their schedule heading into 2025. They are predicted to be 5.5 games in total. If New York’s season goes downhill, the team can resort to Jackson Dart to get him to experience it. Spring practice has ended for the Giants, and next is training camp for rookies starting July 16th.
