Energy Secretary Chris Wright justified the end of 24 energy projects, which had been allocated $3.7 billion by Congress, at a Senate committee on Wednesday. Light Clawback said it was the first round of scrutiny by a newly created review board examining 500 accredited ventures set to receive $300 billion in funding by 2032.
“The DOE is doing a thorough review of financial support that identifies taxpayer dollar waste, promotes President Trump’s commitment to protecting US national security and unleashing US energy control,” he told the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee on June 18 hearing on the request for a $46.3 billion fiscal 2026 budget.
“These projects have failed to meet the economic, national or energy security standards needed to maintain DOE investment. Taxpayers should not be forced to subsidize them,” Wright said.
