According to a survey commissioned by the festival, the 2024 edition of the San Sebastian International Film Festival produced an economic impact of 47.9 million euros.

The survey, conducted by Basque Consultancy Group Ikertalde, found that 523 staffing companies and 249 of them were in the Basque country, with the rest being in Spain and abroad, creating a direct impact of 18.3 million euros on staffing and contracts. It is also attributed to accommodation and travel spending by the festival-providing people.

Another indirect impact of 13.7 million euros was created by ticket sales and items such as accommodation, travel and food by festival attendees, as well as tourists traveling to the city to enjoy the festival.

The breakdown of data provided by Ikertalde’s study adds 15.9 million euros to the induced economic impact. This is an economic uplift created through the wage expenditure effect, including 8.4 million euros generated in tax revenue.

The only previous study of this kind commissioned at the festival was conducted in the 2012 edition, which estimated the economic impact of 27.3 million euros.
