Cannes prize-winner ‘Two Prosecutors’ goes to Janus for North America

Janus Films has acquired all North American rights tProsecutorwinner of the Cannes competition and François Chalet Awards by Ukrainian writer director Sergei Roznica.

Based on a novel by Soviet scientist and political prisoner Jorgie Demidov, the historic drama was set during Stalin’s 1937 pure cleansing, centering on newly appointed prosecutors on the quest for justice for the victims of secret police. Aleksandr Kuznetsov, Alexander Filippenko, Anatoli Beliy, Andris Keišs, and Vytautas Kaniušonis star.

The film marks the return to filmmaking for Roznica’s story, known for his documentaries and dramas exploring Ukrainian history. His previous fiction features, Donbuswon the Best Director Award in the UN Specific Respect Section in 2018.

Two prosecutors Produced by Kevin Chneiweiss of SBS Productions, Cécile Tollu-Polonowski of Regina Bouchehri, Gunnar Dedio, Birgit Rasch of Tookfilm, Loznitsa, Maria Choustova of Atoms & Void, AliseģElze of White Picture, and Vlad R Tima’s Avanpost Media of Uljana of uljan Match Factory. Janus’ deal was negotiated by SBS International.
