Warhammer 40K Space Marine The remaster is a strange beast. The new Master Crafted Edition is an overhauled and upgraded version of the beloved 2011 original, but it has arrived at an incredibly damp reception, even without the lack of active players and no players embodying a 29% steam review score. Now developer Sneakybox and publisher Sega have offered full refunds to those who purchased the copy, and introduced limited time for those who wish to upgrade from the old anniversary edition.
Warhammer 40K Space Marine: Master Crafted Edition looked like a relatively easy sale. When the original was released in 2011, it quickly established itself as stubborn among the best Warhammer 40K games. The easy satisfaction of passing through a horde of orcs with a chainsword was hard to deny. The 10th anniversary edition, launched in 2021, is a free upgrade for players who already own the original on Steam, and to this day it boasts a Steam rating of 92%.
Following the equally incredible reception for Space Marine 2, which has just released a new Siege mode update, Master Crafted Edition has committed to offering “high-quality improvements and graphical improvements” that “takes the Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine Experience to the next level.” However, user reviews criticize the $39.99/£34.99 price range, stating that there are no sufficient upgrades to justify the cost, and even calling for a lack of fixes to new bugs and old issues.
“I’ve heard of any concerns about pricing,” the game creator wrote in a new update. “I want to clarify the steps we are taking to deal with. If you’ve already purchased Space Marine: Master Screded Edition, regardless of playtime, July 10, 2025 (when Steam Summer sales are over)
Additionally, if you already own the Anniversary Edition, you will be eligible for a 50% discount on the Mastercraft Edition over the same period (until Thursday, July 10th). Anyone who has already purchased a new version and wants to take advantage of this will need to manually refund the game and buy it back at a discounted price.
“I know this situation is frustrating for some of you, and I apologize for the confusion that caused it,” the developer continues. “We hope that this approach provides a viable solution while continuing to improve the game itself.” Layout many of the planned improvements after that. It says it will be in a “sequence of patches over the coming weeks.”
These upgrades include HUD, scoreboard, chat improvements, additional button prompts and controller icons, soft locks, graphical issues, and fixing input issues.
