RoboCop: Rogue City On paper, it’s the exact opposite of my favorite shooter. I adore games based on fast pace, enthusiasm, and movement, measured by how fast (and stylish) my skills can act. They talk about neon white, Titanfall, Ultra Kill and more. Rogue City, on the other hand, is to be slow and systematic. You can’t run or carry a gun, but you can just stand there and greet the idiots one by one and dominate the firefight. As a film encapsulation, it’s nothing but great, and you can now experience it yourself for the cheapest thing it’s ever been steam.
RoboCop: Rogue City will step into Alex Murphy’s metallic boots while Detroit is in crisis. Setting between the second and third films requires a balance between Murphy’s detective skills and raw destructive power. So, while it may take half the time to blow the heads of gang members with Auto 9, you also need to talk to the victim and investigate the crime scene.
If you, like me, are a big fan of old school shooters and classic double-A games, Rogue City is definitely worth the shot. Developer Teyon has a lot of focus on how Murphy moves, acts and treats threats as Robocop, making sure to play like a walking tank. It’s slower than most of the best FPS games we recommend, but there’s the raw power to wield more than you make up for it.
This sale isn’t the only reason why now is the best time to try out in Rogue City. Standalone Expansion Robocop: Rogue City – Unfinished business is here in just a few weeks, so you’re ready to catch up soon. I looked at my unfinished business preview in practice earlier this year and found it to be a completely justified sequel. The new ED-209 gameplay offers much needed pace changes, but it feels more lean and controlled.
