update:
Charter Schools recently received $60 million in funding from the otherwise reduced Department of Education, bringing to $500 million federal support for taxpayer-funded alternatives to public schools prior to the 2025-2026 academic year. It’s a boost, but it’s still far less than what a low-performance neighborhood school gets.
Education Secretary Linda McMahon sees this increase as a wise investment. Charter schools across the country score better than traditional public schools in mathematics, reading and university preparatory assessments.
