Minecraft Developer Mojang loves to keep players guessing about new updates, innovations and content. Certainly, you’ll eventually get a set of patch notes, a blog post, or a trailer that reveals everything, but often you’ll throw some crumbs first. It seems like that once again, as the mysterious new teaser on Minecraft’s Instagram page has left fans scratching their heads and cooking a rather wild theory.
It was a busy old month for Minecraft updates and content drops, but the lively visuals are certainly a highlight. Already the flagship of the greatest PC gaming of all time, Minecraft is now even more beautiful than ever thanks to this visual overhaul. But Mojang is not wasting time teasing about the following: And there are many educated speculations (and a complete stab wound in the dark) that appear.
In a new post on the official Minecraft Instagram account, Mojang shows the humble cave scene. However, if you look a little closer, you will see letters with “c” and “u” engraved on the wall, and “2” and “9” engraved on the floor. Similar to these visual cues, you can also see the notification that “teleported Steve to 29, 11, and 63.54.” The captions of the posts are also linked to this, and are simply read as “/tp.”
That’s a strange collection of clues, right? So let’s dive into some theory. Firstly, couples you think you can ignore as they use only a portion of the information available. For those who say ’29, 11′ refers to some sort of major update on November 29th – it’s a long time ago. Also, we do not believe that “C”, “u” and “2” mean that cave update 2 is in the middle. The original cave and cliff update, unfolded in 2021, with two parts unfolding, claims that “Cu 2 9” is hoping for the same big news on the same day, claiming “see you tonight.” And finally, if you think “2” is some kind of hint that Minecraft 2 might be announced on November 29th, don’t get your hopes.
But there’s one very solid (and very nerdy) theory that I think is banging money. From what I can see, this is first mentioned as part of a joint effort in Instagram comments by “Meowze_x” and “Charles__75”, and they predict that this is something that concerns some kind of update on copper.
I’m not going to start reading this article for science lessons, but hold on with me. In the periodic table of elements, copper is represented by the symbol Cu. Its atomic number is 29 and can be found in group 11 of the periodic table. Ah, I guess what the atomic mass of copper is: 63.546. Therefore, it relates to the visual cues of all the caves and the coordinates Steve was teleported. There’s a winner.
What Mojang is trying to do with copper is the next mystery. Maybe there are new uses of copper as a material, or new items you can make from it. Another theory is that the copper golem, which lost in the 2021 community mob vote final and became something of a niche Minecraft meme, can be added to the game. At this stage, we don’t know, but it’s almost certainly copper-related.
Of course, when Mojang finally sees what it is doing, we keep you in a loop. In the meantime, check out our guide to the best Minecraft Seeds and the best Minecraft Mods.
