ITV and Disney strike landmark UK content-sharing deal

Disney+ and ITVX have formed “first-time” contracts to share content from each other’s services on their respective UK platforms.

Starting July 16th, curated, regularly updated selections of series and films for Disney+ and vice versa will be available under the taste of ITVX and Taste of Disney+.

Carl Holmes, general manager of Disney+ EMEA, does not fall into the financial details of the arrangement; broadcast New content swap transactions are “mutually beneficial and mutually cooperative.”

Holmes said the deal was probably the first of several deals with FTA broadcasters in other markets, and Disney+ was an “active discussion.”

“The deals are not the same. ITV has had certain successes for ITVX in the UK, which is somewhat shaping the arrangement,” he added. “But in general, we think that free broadcasters have the biggest audiences and have the biggest shows. So we are looking forward to more deals and actively discussing to work with more stations in more markets.”
