Following the 2024 season with Miami, Robert Jones was a free agent. The security guard spent the first four seasons of his professional career with dolphins.
Jones has signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Cowboys. Through the incentives, his contract is worth $4.75 million. It’s hard to see Jones reach those incentives after recent news. On Monday morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Robert Jones suffered from a broken bone in his neck. He misses two or three months for Dallas. This will hit the offensive line a lot.
Robert Jones was fighting for the starting spot this offseason

After his time in Central Tennessee, Robert Jones was not drafted. Ultimately, he signed in 2021 as an undrafted free agent. Jones played eight games in his rookie season against Miami, starting once. He was given a three-year, $2.45 million contract. Jones returned for the Dolphins in 2024 on a one-year contract. For Dolphins, Jones played 49 games and started 30 times.
He began all 17 games for the dolphin in 2024 with left guard. This offseason, Jones signed a one-year contract with the Cowboys. For the first time on Saturday, Jones acquired Dallas and first team replies. On Sunday, Jones suffered a broken bone in his neck, and is expected to miss two to three months. That’s a brutal loss in the Cowboys preseason.
A prayer for former Dolphin Rob Jones, who broke a bone in his neck during training camp with the Cowboys.
He is now expected to miss a couple of months, but still, the horrifying situation is thankfully not worse than the time he missed. 🙏🏻 pic.twitter.com/d355jlurab

Robert Jones and Rookie Tyler Booker were fighting for their starting spot at guard this offseason. This long-term injury to Jones opens the door for Booker to become a starter. Recently, coach Brian Schottenheimer said Booker hit a “small rookie wall.” Unless the team finds a capable starting guard that is still on the market, the first round picks need to be adjusted quickly.
Brian Schottenheimer also said, “I’ll never bet on Brock Hoffman.” He played 17 games and started seven times in Dallas in 2024. Hoffman was able to play center and guard, giving his team positional versatility. If Booker struggled throughout training camp, Brock Hoffman could see the time. Dallas will play in their first game of the 2025 NFL season vs. the Eagles on Thursday, September 4th. Will their first offensive line be in week 1?
