Conspiracy theories about show business have been formed and mutated over the years, with the most notorious rumors that “celebrity dies in three generations.” So why is Lyme disease such a common diagnosis?

Why do so many celebrities suffer from Lyme disease?

It appears that a large part of Hollywood has revealed a diagnosis of Lyme disease, as the disease is common in the US. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 400,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with Lyme disease each year.

Symptoms of Lyme Disease

The most commonly reported symptoms of Lyme disease include fever, headache, fatigue, facial paralysis, irregular heartbeat, arthritis, and skin rashes called erythema, according to the CDC.

Can I die of Lyme disease?

Yes, but only in rare cases. According to the Cleveland Clinic, Lyme disease leads to fewer deaths and there are treatments for the disease. However, if the condition remains untreated, symptoms can remain for years.

Justin Bieber

Since the Instagram caption in January 2020, Justin revealed that he was “recently” diagnosed with Lyme disease, in addition to “a serious case of chronic things that affected (his) skin, brain function, energy and overall health.”

Avril Lavigne

Since his diagnosis in 2015, Avril has been open about his fight against Lyme disease. She once wrote on her website that she “can accept death and feel that her body is closed.”

Justin Timberlake

In July 2025, Justin shared a lengthy Instagram post about his diagnosis, admitting that he “is on stage… with a ton of neuralgia or just feeling crazy fatigue or illness.”

“In particular, I’ve been battling some health issues and have been diagnosed with Lyme disease – I won’t tell you that I’ll feel bad – but to clarify what I’m against behind the scenes,” the “Mirror” crooner wrote. “If you have experienced this disease or know someone who has it – you know.

In 2003, Shania was bitten by a mites, resulting in Lyme disease. In her documentary, It’s not just girlsthe music artist said her voice was “never the same again.”

“I thought I’d lost my voice forever,” Shania admitted. “I thought it was, (and) I’ll never sing again.”

Riley Keefe

Riley said Vanity Fair In 2023 she lives with Lyme disease.

Yolanda Hadid

Yolanda has been revealing her condition over the years. In September 2024, she wrote in an Instagram post that she had been battling Lyme disease for 15 years.

Bella Hadid

Bella was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2012 and updated fans about her journey in August 2023.
