Ghana’s defense minister is one of eight people who died in a crash crash of a military helicopter in the southern Ashanti region on Wednesday, August 6th.
Defense Minister Edward Oman Boama and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed were among five passengers on the helicopter, CNN reported in Breaking News breaking news. There were also three crew members on the plane.
Ghanaian troops on Wednesday notified that they had lost communication with the Z9 helicopters heading from the Accra capital to Ooasi, a mining town in southern Ghana.
Chief of Staff Julius Debra said the accident was a “national tragedy” and announced that it would fly at the half-mast until the flag informs them further.
“The President and the government will extend the will and solidarity of Sad Dol to the families of our comrades and soldiers who served the country,” Debra said.
The cause of the accident remains unknown
Government officials also said Alhaji Mohammed Munir Limna, Ghana’s proxy vice national security coordinator Samuel Salpon, and former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboaghi, vice-president of the National Democratic Parliament and former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboaghi were three other candidates traveling the helicopter. They died too.
The helicopter crew were appointed squadron leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Marine Tohm Appadou and Sergeant. Ernest Ad Mensa.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known, and the military said an investigation was underway, AP It has been reported.
