Vice President JD Vance said on Friday that Washington “has no plan” to recognize Palestinians when he met British Foreign Secretary David Lamy in Kent.

Asked questions from reporters before consultations, Vance said he worked on the UK’s decision to recognize the Palestinian state in September, unless Israel agrees to a ceasefire in Gaza, and that he doesn’t know what such a perception would even mean “considering the lack of a functional government there.”

“If it was easy to bring peace to that part of the world, it would have already happened,” he said.

The conference comes in discussions between Washington and London about the best ways to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, Israel and Hamas.

It also happens when the UK is favorable for exporting steel and aluminum to the US, and tries to explain the details of the broader trade contract announced at the end of June.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday that he hopes to meet with US President Donald Trump next week. The comments came the day before Trump’s deadline to show progress in ending the Three Years’ War in Ukraine.

While Trump is focusing on bilateral talks with Putin, British Prime Minister Kiel Starmer and other European leaders have emphasized that Ukraine must be part of negotiations to end the war.

The US and Britain, which have close ties historically known as “special relationships,” do not agree with their approach to ending the war in Gaza.

Vance and Lamy come from the other side of the political spectrum, but have developed personal connections through their hard childhood and Christian faith.

While Ramie is a left-leaning Labour member and Vance is a conservative Republican who supports Trump’s “America First” agenda, the two men have united in recent months.

Rammy told the Guardian newspaper that the two men were related to the “dysfunctional” working class childhood and viewed Vance as “friends.”

Lamy attended a Catholic Mass at Vance’s house in Washington earlier this year, and the two men met again at the US embassy in Rome.

“JD has a great sense of being completely connected to me and he is completely related to Angela,” Rammy told the Guardian Newspaper. “So it was a great time half.”

Asked if Trump was given prime minister for Israel’s announced intentions to occupy Gaza City, Vance said he would not take part in such a conversation.
