US President Donald Trump said on Thursday, August 14th that Vladimir Putin believes his Russian counterparts are ready to sign a contract to bring peace to Ukraine after he mentioned the prospects for the nuclear weapons agreement on the eve of a meeting in Alaska.
“I think he’ll make a deal,” Trump said in an interview with Fox News Radio, adding that if the meeting went well, he would then call Zelenskiy and the European leaders, and that if it went badly, he wouldn’t.
“The second meeting will be very, very, very important. This meeting will be set up like a chess game,” Trump said. “This (first) meeting will set up a second meeting, but there is a 25% chance that this meeting will not be successful.”
“I’m not going to negotiate their deal.”
But Trump said it was up to Putin and Zelensky to strike an agreement, saying, “I’m not going to negotiate their deal.”
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said there was no plan to sign the contract and that it was a “big mistake” to predict the outcome of the consultation, shaking expectations for a significant outcome. According to To Russia’s news outlet Interfax.
“Of course, it would be a big mistake to go ahead and predict the outcome,” Pekov said. However, Pekov said Trump and Putin, unlike EU leaders, have a political will to resolve existing problems through dialogue.
“We are proceeding from the good political will shown by the presidents of both countries to resolve the issue through dialogue. Such mutual political will is currently lacking. For example, we will not get a proper response from Europeans,” Pekov said. statement. “President Putin and President Trump are going to talk and we will discuss the most difficult issues.”
Issues on Russian and US agendas
However, Pekov made it very clear that the two leaders will discuss Ukraine, but “at this time we are talking about the debate between Russia and the US. What you are asking (about Ukraine) probably relates to the subsequent stages.”
Previously According to Putin praised Trump’s “energy” efforts to stop the war in Ukraine, but rather than talking about the possibility of an agreement in that respect, he told CNN that Moscow and Washington could launch nuclear weapons control deals during the meeting.
There is no indication that deals on Ukraine from Russia will arise from the Trump-Putin meeting, but European leaders appear to be unnecessarily concerned about the possibility that they may come from that summit.
British Prime Minister Kiel Kiel and Ukrainian President Voldimia Zelensky met for breakfast on August 14th at the BBC’s 10th Downing Street It has been reported. They agreed during their meeting that there was a “strong sense of unity and strong resolve to achieve just and lasting peace in Ukraine.” After the meeting, Zelensky posted a statement x.
There are no indications that the Russians want to “end the war”
“Today we discussed the conference in Alaska and the expectations for a possible outlook. We also discussed in considerable detail the security assurances to make peace truly durable if the US succeeds in stopping the killings and engaging in genuine substantive diplomacy,” Zelensky said.
Starmer and his Ukrainian counterpart also spoke about military support. “We also discussed the continuation of support programs for the Army and the defense industry. In every scenario, Ukraine will maintain its strength,” he added.
Zelensky’s expectations from the Trump and Putin summit on August 13th were not optimistic. “There is no indication that the Russians are preparing to end the war.”
