A total of three European countries are actively aiming to participate in the BRICS Alliance in 2025. The Bullock sees the only European, Asian, Latin America and African countries that challenge the US dollar’s advantage. Other alliances have not publicly adopted the White House policy as much as a group of 10.
A list of European counties interested in joining the BRICS Alliance in 2025
The three European countries that want to join the BRICS bloc are Belarus, Serbia and Türkiye. Furthermore, France wanted to attend the BRICS 2023 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, but its interest was reduced by China and Russia.
- turkey
Despite being a member of NATO, Turkey applied for BRICS membership in September 2024, but the country is not part of the European Union (EU). Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who mentioned BRICS, said: “We’re interested, but membership is not offered yet.” Despite repeated attempts, Turkey has not yet been accepted as a member or partner of the alliance.
- Belarus
Belarus, an Eastern European country, is actively hoping to join BRICS and become a member of the bloc. The country is facing economic isolation from Europe and other parts of the United States due to the actions of the Belarusian government after the 2020 presidential election. This includes human rights abuses, silence of objections and Russia’s support in the war with Ukraine.
- Serbia
Serbia was the first European country to openly express interest in joining the BRICS Alliance. We have officially sent applications to be part of the block in 2023 and are waiting for membership. However, Serbia has been invited to the BRICS Forum and is taking part in the discussion as it tackles the challenges of the EU. Relations between Serbia and Russia have made EU countries uneasy and have led to tension between their neighbouring countries.
