European leaders gathered behind President Donald Trump’s latest push to end the war in Ukraine, expressing a call for a trilateral summit involving Kiev, Washington and Moscow, and pledging to maintain pressure on Russia until a peace deal is secured.
Trump explained to senior European counterparts and Ukrainian President Voldy Mil Zelensky the day before, on August 16, following a summit in Anchorage, Alaska.
Although there was no ceasefire at the High Stakes Conference, both Trump and Putin said they laid the foundation for future negotiations.
