“Hello everyone! Do you want to know what’s going on?” If you just have a cold bead of sweat running down your forehead in response to reading this, you already know what’s going on. Original 1995 Rayman Definitely, it is one of the toughest games of the era. Its cute, child-friendly art style offers its demonically hellish platform. It was walking, so the path of pain in the hollow knight could run (or claw jump). Ubisoft, after all, gave almost the best classic remake of all time with the unsuspecting new generation of Tykes until it was quietly shelved in 2021.
The 90s were a golden age for platformers. From Odd World to Super Mario 64 to the commander eager to Disney’s Lion King, we enjoyed side scrolling and true flocks of 3D bangers. Of course, one of the best platform games of that era was Rayman, one of Ubisoft’s huge catalog of games. Some of my early gaming memories were to dodge the spikes and hook the hoops repeatedly. The next day I was able to boast to my friends about the slightest advancements in school progress. I had no bigger challenges.
It’s been more than a decade since Rayman had his last proper start. This is strange considering the universal acclaimed legend received by Rayman legend alongside the Ravid Mania that ran in the early 2000s. Since then, my appetite for complex platforms has not disappeared – Hollow Night Silk Song says hello. As it happened, UBI had plans to revive the series via a game remake, but unfortunately it didn’t rule it out of the concept stage.
This, according to VFX artist Phong (via Rayman Together on X), said he was tested at UBI in 2021 and specialized in redesigning Rayman’s remake. The title “Rayman Forever” or “The Story of Rayman” is a number of ideas that focus on magicians, based on the concept of a shared logo. As Phong points out, “the project didn’t progress.”
It’s an unexpectedly disappointing end for what could have been a neat little money spinner for UBI, in order for the studio to look to the glory of the past and secure the future. However, given the various documented economic issues of UBI over the past few years, it has led to cancellations, delays and layoffs of multiple games, there is no guarantee that Rayman’s remake would survive ull, even if it came out of the early development stages.
Rayman Forever, or whatever Rayman’s story, or what’s ultimately called, is just another industry What-if.
