After a successful three years later, the UK national cinema was put on hold, but could make a comeback next year.
The end of the summer, the one-day initiative began in 2022 with its current incarnation, offering British and Irish cinemas the opportunity to watch movies for 3 or 4 pounds.
Supported by the Film Distributors Association and the British Film Association, Body Cinema, across industry, held events that were established when the sector was emerging from the pandemic. It was inspired by the original British “National Film Day” held in June 1996.
A film spokesman first spoke screen: “Given the rest of the year with the film entry and the growth of the extremely busy slate, the 2025 National Film Day Initiative has been suspended, and an evolved format of the event is being considered for further celebration in 2026.”
Last year’s National Film Day was held on August 31, 2024, with over 1 million admission fees listed for £4 at 630 venues across the UK. In 2023, the event took place at over 700 cinemas on September 2nd, up 5% from the first event in 2022. Equalizer 3 From Sony’s photos, Cobweb From Lions Gate aisle From Mbi and a 30th anniversary re-release Jurassic Park From the Park Circus.
National Cinema Days was largely considered beneficial in its new outfit, offering a convenient end-of-summer boost for cinema attendees and an opportunity to put up trailers for upcoming films in front of mass audiences. But while there was also wary of a decline in revenue for popular films, most exhibition and distribution executives support the initiative and hope it will return next year.
