This month’s viral video claims that the humanitarian aid that Spanish humanitarian aid fell to Gaza included pork and old food.
The controversy began after a clip posted by a Palestinian journalist named Alam El Din Sadiq, but showed that a young boy opened a bag of aid to Khan Yunis and Deia Al Bhara.
Other reports allege that Spain’s humanitarian assistance in Gaza includes “pork meatballs” and pork. This is a food that Muslim religion prohibits eating.
Spanish authorities respond: “Halal certified!”
Over the past two months, Spain has dropped around 12 tons of aid across Gaza via 24 parachutes, aiming to feed around 11,000 people. This is part of a joint effort with France, Germany, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan, created to bypass blocked intersections and provide mandatory rationing directly.
Spanish authorities stated, “All packages sent have expiration dates in order, everything is sealed and all necessary certificates. The shipping bills purchased and distributed by AECID will expire on June 30, 2026.” All parts are halal certified, they assured.
Alicante-based company has released the package
Aid Package features the Jomipsa brand, an Alicante-based company specializing in humanitarian distribution. The company provides ready-to-eat meals, hygiene kits, and specialized assistance to the government, NATO, the Red Cross, UNRWA and UNICEF. They also offer customizable meals, including halal options for Muslims.
Unfortunately, the package in question could not be verified due to unknown batch numbers. “Without numbers, it is impossible to verify,” Spanish authorities argued.
Gaza: A catastrophic humanitarian crisis
Beyond the food controversy, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Alvarez highlights Gaza’s deeper crisis. Speaking in May, he described the hunger situation as “a serious violation of international law,” and described the delay in aid as life-threatening.
Overall, the viral video sparked rage online, but Spanish officials were clear. The aid was safe, certified and even halal.
