On Thursday afternoon, the defending Super Bowl champion was hit with news of an unfortunate injury. The Philadelphia Eagles lost WR in the 2025 season.

Inquirer Jeff Mclane reported that second-year Eagles WR Johnny Wilson was injured in practice on Tuesday. Wilson was unable to get enough fields in pain and was eventually taken to the locker room. A 24-year-old needs surgery due to ankle and knee problems. Wilson misses the entire 2025 season in Philadelphia.

In the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Eagles selected Florida State’s Johnny Wilson. As a rookie last season, Wilson played in 16 of the Eagles’ 17 games, starting four times. He was on the field in 2024 with 34% of the team’s offensive play. Additionally, Wilson played 24% of the team’s special team snaps. As a pass catcher, Wilson received five receptions and one touchdown for 38 yards.

As a 6-foot 6-foot, Johnny Wilson has an exceptional size for his positivity. This allows him to make dynamic conflict catches, especially near the finish line. Heading into 2025, Wilson was expected to play a bigger role for the Philadelphia Eagles. Johnny Wilson was injured during practice Tuesday. Second-year pro Johnny Wilson needs surgery and his 2025 season is shorter before it starts. With Wilson finishing the season, the Eagles are expected to have at least six WRS on the 2025 depth chart. This includes AJ Brown, Devonta Smith, Jahhandtson, Ainius Smith, Darius Cooper and John Meckie.

Just this week, the Eagles acquired Matchie by dealing with the Houston Texans. Young WR was a college teammate of Devonta Smith and Landon Dickerson of the Alabama Eagles. Philadelphia made a deal with John Meckie before learning of Johnny Wilson’s injury. They were trying to add WR depth, but it turned out to be necessary. Philadelphia will open its 2025 season in Brazil on September 4th for the neutral site Games vs. Philadelphia Eagles.
