ExclusiveChina Sales Agent Parallax Films has won the feature debut of Tibetan director Kangdrun lineahead of the upcoming Tokyo International Film Festival’s world premiere in the future Asian future competition.
The adult family drama follows a woman returning to the Tibetan capital, Lhasa, to film a film about her childhood friend. As memories begin to pour in, the latter sudden loss of disappearance creates ripples in reality. It marks the first fictional feature ever directed by a Tibetan woman.
This week it was revealed that the film is one of ten features selected to compete in the Asian future section of TIFF. This is open to Asian directors who have acquired three features.

Kangdrun is an emerging author of Tibetan writers who often portray the younger generations and intercultural communities of Lhasa. Her latest short Karma and Orlo It was selected as China’s first film festival and will be screened in Vancouver this month. Included in her previous award-winning short films Lines, lines and Lhasa’s short summer.
