During the coalition negotiations, CDU/CSU lost 6% points.

Director of the New Institute for Social Response (INSA) Hermann Binkert calls this “the loss of support that has never been seen before between presidency elections and government formation.”

According to a Sunday poll conducted by the INSA Opinion Research Institute for The Bild Newspaper, 24% of voters surveyed vote for CDU/CSU, while 24% vote for AFD.

For AFD, this represents a 1% point increase compared to the last poll, marking the best results ever. In contrast, the next CDU/CSU led by federal Prime Minister Friedrich Merz lost two percent points.

CDU and CSU won the Bandetag election on February 23 at 28.5%, 28.5% on February 23, with AFD in second place with 20.8%.

Compared to the election, CDU/CSU lost a total of 4.5 points.

The SPD, which is expected to become a coalition partner in the near future, remains the same at 16% in the new INSA poll. As a result, the SPD itself does not have a majority in Congress.

The Greens are 11% (-1), and the same goes for the left party (+1). All other parties continue to reach the 5% threshold.

A total of 1,206 people participated in the survey between March 31st and April 4th. According to INSA, the maximum statistical margin for error is 2.9% points.

Meanwhile, according to a German news website t-onlinethe banded tag session scheduled for next week has been cancelled in response to CDU/CSU and SPD requests. Foreseeable opposition has left, Green, AFD protests.

The AFD interprets the move as an expression of fear, suggesting that the union is worried that it will be cast a shadow by the right-wing party. According to Bernd Baumann, the AFD Congressional Group’s councillor, AFD will soon present “all the requests that CDU/CSU have promised during the election campaign” at Bundestag, as explained in a video on news platform X.

The Greens criticize this as “a hanging game, especially in these times,” but the party on the left calls it a f-humiliation. They argue that there are enough important topics that require dialogue (such as Trump’s habit policy).

A new bandet tag has been convened for the first session on March 25th. Prior to this, the old Congress had approved extensive debts for infrastructure and defense with a two-thirds of the majority needed. In addition to CDU/CSU and SPD, the Greens also voted in favor of the Special Fund.

In the new bandetag, these parties would not have had the majority necessary to pass such a resolution.
