The long-running International Film Festival of India (IFFI) will operate this year with a renewed commitment to inclusivity and diversity, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishno said on Friday, November 7.
Emphasizing that point, the festival was named Brazilian Science Fiction Drama blue trailwon the Silver Bear Award for opening title in Berlin earlier this year. Festival organizers described Gabriel Mascaro’s film as “a quiet declaration of freedom, dignity, and the right to dream.”
IFFI will be held from November 20th to 28th at multiple venues across Goa. The renamed Waves Film Bazaar industry event will be held adjacently from November 20th to 24th.
The vast festival will screen a total of 240 films, 160 of which are international titles, divided into 15 competitive and selected categories. These include International Competition, Indian Panorama, Cinema of the World, special segments Macabre Dreams, Docu-Montage, Experimental Film, UNICEF and Restored Classics.
He is responsible for Indian Panorama, a section that showcases local works. caveatis a biographical action film in Tamil about an Army Major who was killed in a counter-terrorism operation in 2014. This section consists of 25 feature films and 20 non-features.
IFFI focused on Japan and selected six Japanese full-length titles. These include: that’s itJapanese nominee for the Oscar International Feature Category, and Two seasons, two strangersa resolutely minimalist art film by Sho Miyake that won the Golden Leopard Award at Locarno in August.

IFFI’s selection committee said it fulfilled its role as a festival within a festival by selecting 21 Oscar-nominated films. Some of the international titles to be held in Goa include: Cannes Palme d’Or winner for Jafar Panahi it was just an accident;Jim Jarmusch’s Venice Golden Lion Award-winning work Father Mother Sister Brother;Berlin Golden Bear Award winner Dream (Sex Love);Busan Festival Winner Luminous brilliance.
Other winning titles include works by Oliver Lacks; Silatof the Ivan Fund messagePark Chan-wook there is no other choice and Igor Bezinovich’s Fire or death!.
Organizers say evidence of the festival’s focus on diversity and innovation comes from the selection of more than 50 films made by women and a similar number of first-time directors.
The film selected as India’s best debut film will receive a cash prize of $64,000 to the director. Five web series will also be participating, with the top entry receiving a $128,000 cash prize to be split between creators and producers.
Despite the emphasis on novelty, India’s film heritage is not ignored. Guru Dutt, Raj Khosla, Ritwik Ghatak, P. Bhanumati, Bhupen Hazarika, Salil Chowdhury and others will all be celebrated with career highlight performances.
Living icons such as superstar actor and producer Aamir Khan, cinematographer Ravi Varman, actor Bobby Deol and film editor Sreekar Prasad will participate in a series of masterclasses at the festival.
South Indian legend Rajinikanth will also be honored for his 50 years in the film industry at the festival’s closing ceremony.
