Michael Chandler condemned a foot injury in the first round in his disappointing performance against Charles Oliveira at UFC 309 in a fight decided by the judges.

Chandler was late due to a leg injury

The fight between Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira came to all five rounds last weekend, but Chandler revealed that after his loss he suffered a leg injury early in the contest where he struggled for the next four rounds.

Oliveira dominated the match and won by a unanimous decision, but Chandler believes the outcome could be different if he didn’t pick up a knee injury.

“I think something happened to my knee in that first change when he had his legs. I did that full 360, he did the knee thing.

“It wasn’t stepped on, it wasn’t caught, it was shaky, it was weird… You know what it’s like to be on a solid foundation, move forward, move forward, attack.

“We’ll see what happened, but essentially for the 23 minutes of that fight, we don’t know if the feet are really working well.”

Chandler can’t complain much, as Oliveira won easily. He also came out after UFC 309 and revealed his own injury struggle even before the fight.

The Brazilian admitted he didn’t want to use his pain as an excuse, but he was fighting with a knee injury and a ruptured ligament, but still managed to control Chandler.

Chandler has now won two battles since joining the UFC.
