Former US ambassador Sir Peter Mandelson has resigned from British parliament amid a growing political scandal over allegations that he passed market-sensitive information to the late convicted sex offender and financier Jeffrey Epstein.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer had threatened to draw up legislation to strip Labor tycoon Mandelson of his title, while the Metropolitan Police launched an investigation into information about allegations of misconduct in public office.
