Stephen Stancos returned to Tampa Bay on Monday night for the first time since trading in the summer, with Lightning paying tribute to the former star on Homecoming.

Stancos’ emotional return

In his first 16 seasons with Steven Stankos in the NHL, he played for the Tampa Bay Lightning, but after a long career in Florida he was finally traded for a predator in the summer.

When he first returned to Tampa Bay this week, the Lightning paid tribute to the former player with an emotional welcome to the team that Stancos made his career.

After the game, Stancos was asked what he thought of the compliment, and he replied: “It was great. It was first class. I wouldn’t be less.

“It was pretty emotional. I didn’t know how to respond. I could feel the tears coming out, so I decided to go back to the bench.”

The former Lightning captain has not completely closed the doors of his former team. It is clear that he still has a lot of love for the side he has spent a long time.

“I don’t think it’s goodbye,” Stankos said. “I’m more grateful for that. Look at the type later.”

Stamkos signed a four-year, $32 million Lightning contract earlier this season, but Future Hall of Famer’s Words Post Match may suggest that he can return to his old side later in his career.

Nashville lost on Stancos’ return, but the 34-year-old was able to add two assists to the season tally in a 3-2 loss to Tampa Bay. Candian was praised for his assist after the first goal, but the home fans weren’t very happy when they set the equalizer later in the game.

However, Lightning still appeared on the top, with the victory moving the sides 6-3 to kick off the hockey season.
