The Cleveland Cavaliers became the fourth team in NBA history, leaving the season unbeaten 15-0, but where did the other three teams end after a quick start from the block?
The Cavaliers will be 15-0
The Cavaliers have an incredible run in the NBA and have yet to drop games this season after their first 15 games.
Only the other three teams in the NBA went 15-0, but after a fast start to the season, did any of those teams win the championship?
Who went 15-0 in the NBA?
- 2016 Golden State Warriors – Lost the NBA Finals
- 1994 Houston Rockets – Winning Championship
- 1949 Washington Capitol – Lost the NBA Finals
The only team to win the NBA Finals after going 15-0 to start the season was the 1994 Houston Rockets, with the 2016 Warriors and 1994 Capitol both being eliminated at the final hurdles of the year.
Of the other three teams that won their first 15 games of the season, only the Warriors were able to improve to 16-0, with the 2016 team holding the record for the longest unbeaten streak at 24-0.
Cleveland still faces its toughest test on Tuesday night, with the current champion hosting the Cavs in Boston. Tuesday’s game was also an NBA Cup fixture, and the Celtics are keen to correct this week’s mistakes as they lost their first game in the competition.
After his 15th victory on Sunday night, Cavs head coach Kenny Atkinson is looking forward to the game in Boston, recalling the team’s loss to the champions in the Eastern Conference semi-finals last year.
“Everyone is watching,” Atkinson said.
“It’s great for the NBA… I think everyone is watching.”

“We know we’re worried, but we know what they remember last year. We’re on track, they’re on track, Boston Garden, is it better than that? This is great for the league and it’s great for the franchise. We’re excited about it.”
Despite an impressive start to this year, the victory over Boston could be a major test for Atkinson’s team, which gives us real indications of where it is for now.
