BFI America will be on sale at reception in Los Angeles on April 23rd Celebrating the 90th anniversary of BFI National Archive.
The nonprofit organization previously known as the Friends of the British Film Institute It operates as a US-compatible with the British Film Institute, which maintains strong connections between American cinemas and their film community, including the preservation and restoration of the BFI National Archives.
The longtime James Bond producer and former guardian of franchise Barbara Broccoli joined the BFI American Committee alongside filmmaker Terry Gilliam, Valo Money founder Colin Walsh, producer Deborah Schindler, producer and marketing expert Penelope Wong, and UCLA professor Mari Kimberg.
BFI CEO Ben Roberts will host a reception at Consul General Paul Renney’s British residence, along with BFI Governor Scott Stuber and Laura Miele and directors of the BFI American Board of Directors Wong and Kinberg.
BFI leadership, including executive directors of knowledge, learning and collections, will also be joined by Executive Director Fundraising & Exposure Director Fundraising & Enterprise Frances Cavinti, who serves as interim chair of BFI America.
The TCM Classic Film Festival will begin the day after (April 24-27) where six films from the BFI National Archive collection will be exhibited. The lineup includes Steven Spielberg’s 50th anniversary original British release dye dye transfer technicolor print jaw, It featured features featured by Roberts and cast member Lorraine Gary interviewed on stage at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.
The rest of the festival screenings will be screenings of David Lean. Bliss Spirit (1945); Martin Litt The edge of the city (1957), Michael Curtis Mildred earrings (1945), Alexander Korda Henry VIII’s personal life (1933);Ernstrubitsch Is there or not? (1942).
On April 25th, Roberts joins Guiller Model Rotoro on the scene at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, discussing the rare and restoration of things from the BFI National Archives.
