The man arrested on suspicion of murdering a Russian general with a Russian bomb is pleased to be guilty of the terrorist charges and said he was paid by Ukrainian security services, Russian authorities said on Sunday.

Lt. Gen. Yaroslav Moskalic, deputy director of the main operations division of the Russian military’s general staff, was killed along with his assistanttant in a bomb in his car in Barashika outside Moscow on Friday.

Ukrainian authorities have not commented on the attack. This was the second in four months to target a high-ranking Russian military office that denounced Ukraine amidst the conflict between the two countries.

Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov died on December 17, 2024, when a bomb exploded hiding on an electric scooter outside the apartment building as he passed on his way to his office. Ukrainian security agencies have confirmed that it is behind the attack.

Kirilov was the head of Russia’s radiation, biological, and chemical protection forces, a special group of people responsible for protecting the military from the enemy use of nuclear, chemical, or biological weapons, ensuring operation in contaminated environments.

He had been sanctioned by many countries, including Britain and Canada, for his actions in the war with Ukraine.
