Diablo 4 Season 8 is important for a variety of reasons, but one of the biggest is the introduction of relics that replace the old Battle Pass system. Taking inspiration from fellow Actiblizz franchise Call of Duty, you can split seasonal rewards into different pages and unlock available rewards in any order. It all sounds great, but unfortunately, its debut isn’t exactly as planned. Not only has Blizzard admitted that the bugs that charge people and don’t give them to the premium relic pass are charging, but many Diablo fans have expressed general complaints online with the new system.
Let’s tackle this bug first. Basically, if I were you, I would charge players the correct cost in Platinum (the paid premium currency for Diablo 4) but won’t allow what I bought, so I’d avoid buying the Holy Paradise page for Premium Diablo 4 Season 8 until I confirm that Blizzard fixes the issue. In a post on the RPG forum, community manager Filthierich said:
However, Reddit, which has many vocal fans on the forum and criticizes the new Relic version, may have some longer-term issues with Blizzard ironing. In my opinion, they still point out that Premium Battle Pass (which sets 1,000 platinum at once by purchasing all three Premium Relacu pages at once, which is equivalent to $9.99/£8.39) fans are reducing their rewards with this new system.
Aside from the bonus armor set and pets, when you purchase the more expensive Deluxe Battle Pass, you will receive a total of 34 items after completing all four pages of the Premium Pass. The old Battle Pass had 90 layers, but some slots were featured in bundles of platinum and smoldering ashes.
In Blizzard’s defense, we removed some of the small rewards, such as titles and emotions, which focus primarily on armor, weapons, and mounts. Some of these rewards are the complete armor set, not individual armor. However, the main complaint is that after completing the entire pass, only 200 platinum remains. This is significantly less than the 700 platinum you can earn from the old linear battle pass. This excess platinum can go to reduce the cost of passing next season.
This reshuffle of rewards and a cut in platinum, which the premium relics repaid, brought some frustration and disappointment. “Relief is a massive downgrade born out of pure greed,” says a user who compares the rewards before and after. Another says the new system will “almost postpone playing this season honestly.”
So despite the increased flexibility and fat trimming, this new seasonal reward system has not been as universally well received as I had expected. It will be interesting to see how Blizzard responds to criticism and whether it will cause changes in the Relic Box or the entire system for next season.
Diablo 4 Season 8 has many redemption qualities, but if you’re thinking twice, this new Battle Pass system will show you other great coop games you should try.
