Swedish police say they are investigating the incident as murder after the shooting attack occurred in Uppsala, a city near the capital Stockholm on Tuesday.
Swedish media reported that a manhunt was ongoing to find the perpetrator. Witnesses say the gunman reportedly escaped the scene of an attack on the electric scooter.
Police said in a statement that they received a call from the public who reported hearing big bangs reminiscent of the shooting in central Uppsala, the university city north of Stockholm.
Photos of the scene showed police outside a barber shop called “Shalom.”
When they began their investigation, the wide area was blocked by police.
Local resident Nina said she felt “uncomfortable” as the attacks took place in a residential area right next to where she lives, an area where children often play.
“I think it’s uncomfortable because it means we’re going past here, especially when you know. We picked up our partner just before we went by here. We live next door and I think there are kids and young people in these areas.
There were no immediate indications of motives, and police statements did not provide details regarding the suspected assailant.
Sweden has been working on gang violence for years, resulting in frequent gunfire and bombing attacks.
