Ukrainian activist and volunteer Serhii Sernenko was injured in an attack called an assassination attempt by Ukrainian security services.

In a Telegram post, Sternenko said, “I was attacked. I was injured.” He added that his life was not in danger and that the alleged attacker was in custody.

“I am grateful to the SBU (Ukrainian security services) for their prompt response. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be able to write anything anymore. They literally saved my life,” he said.

According to the SBU, the attack on Sternenko included firearms.

“Operational and investigation actions are ongoing and we will inform you individually of the progress of the situation,” SBU said in a statement, sharing photos of the suspects arrested.

A voice critic of Russia and its full-scale invasion, Sternenko is one of the most famous Ukrainian activists and volunteers known for their crowdfunding campaigns to support the military.

Since the beginning of the Russian war against Ukraine, he has raised funds to support the supply of over 550 military units.

It played an important role in popularizing first-person view (FPV) drones. In January he launched the Sternenko Community Foundation.

According to the report, the foundation has raised funds to supply equipment to the forefront, including the purchase of more than 176,000 FPV drones as of May 1.

Sternenko gained popularity through social media channels such as YouTube, with over 2 million subscribers and Telegram, followed by 840,000 people.

He is also known as the Maidan Revolution, an active participant in Ukraine’s 2014 revolution of dignity, and has been attacked several times. According to his lawyers, in 2018, Sternenko was fatally injured by a Self-Defense Force attacker.
