The agency said $165 billion has been saved so far through the cut-and-freeze process.
Elon Musk-backed by Government Efficiency Office (DOGE) said in a recent update it has helped save $100 billion, more than $1,000 per taxpayer.
According to an organization founded by President Donald Trump in January, it amounts to about $1,024.84 saved per taxpayer.
Before the latest update, Doge said in a notice issued around April 22 that it had exceeded approximately $160 billion, or more than $993 per taxpayer.
On May 1, Doge posted that an agency worth $2.1 billion in savings of $613 million, including a financial agreement for the “Kenya Program Coordinator” and another financial agreement for the “Kenya, Uganda, Namibia and Tanzania Cruiser Vehicles” “ends its 401 contract.”
Other targeted agreements included training sessions on equal opportunity employment and training sessions for the “Environmental Consulting Support Services.”
Opponents filed dozens of lawsuits against Doge’s actions, including attempts to access government information, such as social security data, in government audits.
Congressional Democrats released Tracker on April 29, saying Musk and the Trump administration blocked roughly $400 billion in federal funds they claimed to have been allocated by Congress.
“Instead of investing in Americans, President Trump is ignoring our laws and tearing our resources apart,” Murray and Delauro said.
Doge was trying to cut federal spending by $1 trillion, but Musk recently admitted in a pushback that it was difficult to get close to it.
“That’s a hey, how much pain do the Cabinet and Congress have?” Musk said at last week’s White House Cabinet meeting. “We can do that, but we need to deal with a lot of complaints.”
Regarding Doge, Musk added:
Since taking office in January, Trump has said he wants to reduce federal fraud, waste and abuse while trying to end various programs that don’t match his administration’s priorities.
Doge was established by an executive order issued in January. Musk works as a special advisor to Trump and as a special government employee. This means he can only work for a total of 130 days.
Tesla, the automotive company whose CEO is Musk, recorded worse profits and revenues in the first quarter of 2025 than expected.
In late April, Musk indicated that he would step back from his government role in May in May in a Tesla revenue call. He emphasized that he will continue to support the Trump administration, “to ensure that the waste and fraud we are not able to stop can be robbed.”
