Gerard Depardieu is found guilty at a trial in Paris on a film set of sexual assault on two women.

French actor Depardieu has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.

The actor was accused by two women exploring them during the 2021 filming. Depardou denied the allegation.

Depardieu will be required to pay a fine of 20,000 euros (£16,850) and will be listed on the Sex Offender Register.

Depardieu was not in court to hear the verdict, so he was represented by his lawyer, Jeremie Assous.

While awaiting the verdict, the actor is filming a feature directed by Fannie Ardanto, the actor’s longtime friend who defended him in court at trial since April. Marks the actor’s first credit since the 2023 cooking drama Hmmm.

This is the first case that has been brought to trial among other allegations made against Depardieu. French actress Charlotte Arnold first filed criminal charges against him in 2018, accusing him of rape. The prosecutors are requesting a separate trial for the case, but no official court dates have been set.

When asked if Despardou would be invited to the Cannes Film Festival, General Thierry Fremer said at a press conference Monday ahead of the verdict:
