The control of movement may soon become a reality in League of Legends

It is the central pillar of so many PC games, but MOBAS League of Legends I have never boarded with WASD movement control. Strategic traversal of the Summoner’s Rift is always lending to classic point-and-click methods, and using a mouse to move in the heat of complex, intense skirmishes is a skill in its own right. However, the new Datamin appears to indicate that Riot is ready to add the option to play LOL with WASD controls for a rather large change in the current situation.

League of Legends has previously dabbled in the WASD move, but has resigned only to Swarm, a limited-time mode in 2024. However, this never seemed like Riot would seriously experiment and test because of the application in the main game. Swarm is a PVE mode that plays like a bullet heaven, rewrites the gameplay of MOBA and features a small group of playable champions such as Jinx, Seraphine, Yasuo and more.

But now it appears that there is a range for WASD controls to go to LOL on a much wider scale. According to yesterday’s Datamin of the latest PBE patch by “Skinspotlights”, there was a line of code suggesting the addition of the WASD option. However, after diving deeper today, we revealed details including the actual menu screen.

Images shared by Skinspotlights allow you to see presets of Classic Controls, which use mouse for movements and “modern controls” for WASD movements. It is worth noting that even with WASD enabled, you can use the mouse for movement. Skinspotlights also states that “Flash has three settings for ‘cursors’, which has enhanced cursors ‘(and)’ Wasd ‘Wasd wasd wasd’ ‘” “Automatic attack movement bound to left click” and “Instantcast spells use character movement direction”

The transition to WASD movement control could be one of the biggest gameplay changes Riot has ever made against Reague of Legends, but if it turns out to be an easier or more effective way to play the game, it could turn out that many years of Mouse Movement master will have to retrain them if WASD becomes a new norm.

Some people wonder if this is actually a universal setting for LOL or whether WASD’s moves are simply being added to the new spinoff game mode. That’s all I say – I don’t think there’s a full-scale option menu built for it if it’s just for limited time mode. However, Riot has not made any official clarification of the feature or states that it plans to change its movement in a critical way. This datamin is very strong evidence that it will hit the game in the future, but it is worth taking it with grains of salt.
