WASHINGTON – Republicans were hit hard on May 16th, when the House Budget Committee failed to advance its trillion dollar budget package. The package, created through a process that does not require support from Democrats, will fund President Donald Trump’s agenda items at borders, energy and more, making the tax cuts passed during the No. 1 presidency permanent. It will also raise the debt cap to $4 trillion. After the May 16th vote, House Speaker Mike Johnson’s anniversary deadline to advance the package appeared at risk. Throughout the morning, House Majority Leader Steve Scullyse negotiated with a conservative Republican holdout who are concerned about the level of bill spending. And Trump complained about the true social society of the Republican “Grand Standards.”
