The San Francisco 49ers have decided to sell a 6% stake in the franchise, reportedly worth the league’s new record valuation of $8.5 billion.

San Francisco 49ers sells 6% stake

The York Family’s San Francisco owner will be selling a large stake in the franchise to three separate buyers this summer from the Bay Area.

Potential sales value 49ers at $8.5 billion. This overturns the previous San Francisco valuation ($6.8 billion) made by Forbes last year.

At the time of ratings last year, the 49ers were the sixth highest worthy team in the league. After the Eagles were valued at $8.3 billion in December, the $8.6 billion valuation makes the 49ers the best team in the league.

This news isn’t a surprise to anyone in the NFL. San Francisco owner Jed York has confirmed that his family plans to sell a large stake in the team in March.

“If there’s an opportunity that makes sense, it’s just one of those things that we always explore,” York said. “But I don’t know what we’re going to do.

“And if that’s the case, we try to find the right people who can help strengthen everything within and around the team, the field, the field, everything from the field.

The organization sells 3.1% to the Khosla family, 2.1% to the Deeter family and 1% to the Griffith family.

Other NFL teams planning to sell

The 49ers aren’t the only team in the NFL, as Cleveland Browns and Los Angeles Chargers are also planning for upcoming sales.

The Chargers want to sell 8% of their team and after talking to many suitors they reportedly settled on a deal with ARCTOS. There is likely to be a deal, but Los Angeles has just submitted the proposal to the league’s finance committee.

Like the Charger and the 49ers, the Cleveland Browns hope to sell minority stakes this year, despite being far less than the other two franchises.

NFL Hall of Fame Charles Woodson has agreed to a 0.1% stake in the franchise in a transaction pending broadcast limits for FOX’s current analysts.
