I have to admit that the recent enormous volume and the constant flow of newcomers joining the mountains is a bit burning out when it comes to Roguelike DeckBuilders. This strategic and highly playable genre has some of the greatest PC games ever, but certainly a saturated market. But it’s difficult not to invest Monster Train 2. We have just started five years with our predecessor – one of the best rated and reviewed Roguelike deck builders ever – has finally arrived and is already meeting the high expectations of players.
The first Monster Train set up a very high bar. One of the best roguelikes of the early 2020s will tasping you by turning the usual “heaven and hell” looting into your mind and saving the underworld. It belongs to a strong user rating of 96% on Steam and also earned an impressive critical review score. Metacritic’s average of 86 is not sniffed. Then to fill in the big boots of Monster Train 2.
The sequel follows many of the principles that made its predecessor so great. There are multiple floor battle arenas that add verticality to the frequently flat encounters seen with hundreds of cards, beautifully designed enemies, and rivals in the genre. However, instead of taking a train through hell this time, you will visit a mysterious realm known as the Abyss. Angel Angels and Hell’s Devils have formed an unlikely alliance as they need good killing through the invasion of a beast known as the Titans.
With new angel-like demon factions that allow you to play AS, lots of new cards, and Pier Heart, which helps you change each run before leaving the station, it should feel familiar yet fresh to anyone who played the first monster train.
There is even more innovation in some of the new modes and features of the Monster Train 2. For those who want to bring things to the extreme, there is an endless mode. “Handmade Challenges, New Mutators, Unique Cosmetics Rewards” awaits you with dimension challenges. According to developer Shiny Shoe, Celestial Alcoves teases unexpected random events. But more than anything, you can customize the train. wonderful.
The launch date for Monster Train 2 didn’t get much better, even considering the high expectations set by the original. At the time of writing, its metallic score sits on a sensational 89. Not only did you win the first game, it’s definitely one of the best reviewed PC games overall. So far, there have only been around 200 user reviews on Steam, but it also appears to have scored a big score. I’m currently sitting at a 95% rating.
Players on the first day also looked healthy for steam, peaking at 11,200 simultaneous players. This is even more impressive considering the game is readily available from the game pass. There, millions of subscribers will be able to access it at no additional cost.
Monster Train 2 is currently available on PC, Game Pass and consoles. Returns $24.99/£20.99. You can grab it on Steam here.
If you’ve already lowered the bottom, it’s definitely worth giving a spin, but here we’ll show you some of the best game pass games that Monster Train 2 has on board with the service. You can also check out the best card games on your PC for a more strategic and deck building experience.
