When it comes to turning the car sideways and producing as much tire smoke as possible, the Japanese really know what they’re doing. It is a drifting spiritual home, and the country produces some of the most desirable cars for drift tuners and enthusiasts. Embarrassingly, this is a place and subsection of automotive culture that is neglected by big names in open world races such as Forza, Test Drive, and The Crew. That’s here JDM Japanese Drift Master It’s coming in. A compact single-player racer with iconic and licensed Japanese cars and storylines told through manga, it just slips into steam.

For a while, I have been looking at JDM Japan’s driftmaster. This is an interesting concept for a new racing game. In this genre, we tend to see small, stylistic Indian and content triple-A Titans, but JDM is pointing somewhere in the middle. Choosing a niche like drift is a wise choice. This is usually an optional way to earn skill points in games like Forza Horizon 5 or reserve for a specific event type. But here, it was at the heart of everything, so of course Japan had to be the setting. JDM’s Guntama province is fictional, but is packed with 250km of roads, from the Honshu region of the country to city streets, highways and mountain paths.

The game’s story revolves around foreign racers who travelled to Japan to advance their racing and drift careers. Here he fights in the best battles of the country, making some friends (and perhaps the enemies too) along the way. The events and outcomes of your race help to shape the story, but the heavy lifting of the story takes place in a truly unique way – comics. The original, cleverly drawn comic pages move the story forward and introduce new characters.

As you progress, you can unlock better cars and tuning options with your quest to create the ultimate drift machine. Almost every car you get is officially licensed, as it’s a pleasant surprise for a game of that size.

As you can imagine, there are no Bugatti, Ferrari or Aston Martins here. Things are limited to the models most widely loved by Japanese manufacturers, especially the castaway enthusiasts. Nissan Skyline R34. Mazda RX-7. The 22 strong lineup includes some genuine legendary cars.

JDM Japan’s Driftmaster is currently on Steam and will earn 15% off until Wednesday, June 4th to earn $29.47/£24.64. To add it to your library or simply look for more information, visit this store page.
