With major European cities increasingly expensive and faster paced, more people are looking for alternatives.

There’s no perfect place. Every destination has a trade-off and you have to give up something in exchange for something else. That’s exactly how it works.

Still, according to reports from the Italian press, there are many countries that are just a short distance from Europe. Sunny weather, long beach growth, slower pace of life, prices that don’t break the bank.

And it’s just 725km from Spain, between Palma de Marolca and the country’s capital.

Approximately 200 euros, 2 euros meal

Across the Mediterranean is Tunisia, located on the coast of North Africa. A country that is gaining increasing attention due to its low-cost living and a laid back pace.

According to Italian outlets MoralizerIt’s not only possible to live in Tunisia for 500 euros per month, but it’s also comfortable. “For 500 euros you can live like a king,” says the Italian.

In many areas, you can rent a decent apartment near the coast for around 200-250 euros. The full meal costs just 2 euros, and fresh seafood dinners rarely exceed 15 euros. A simple lunch? Approximately 1.50 euros.

More expatriates are coming to Tunisia

Particularly attractive is the north coast of Tunisia, with its small cities and villages. Many Italians retire there because of slowing down their lives. Recently, more digital nomads and even whole families have decided to move there.

Not only is it low cost, but also for less stress, increased free time, freedom to enjoy everyday pleasures without European financial pressure.

Despite being in Africa, Tunisia is not completely unfamiliar to many Europeans. French is widely spoken domestically, and it shows cultural influences from Europe. Another plus is the frequent and inexpensive connections between Spain and Italy, making the country even more accessible.

Living costs in Tunisia

According to the website ExpatistThe average cost of living in Tunisia is around 744 euros per month. But many foreigners who live there say that adjusting their expectations and simply embracing a simpler lifestyle can cost much less.

Of course, we may need to reduce Western comfort, but for those willing to adapt, Tunisia offers something more and more unusual. Life is still affordable, time feels abundant, and peace of mind doesn’t come with a large price tag.
